I would like to acknowledge that Montreal, named as Tiohtià:ke (place where the rivers divide) by the Kanien’kehá:ka, has long served as a gathering place for many First Nations including the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Abenaki, Algonquin-Anishinaabe, Atikamekw, and Huron-Wendat. And that Vancouver is the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, specifically the shared traditional territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), Tsleil-Waututh, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Kwikwetlem First Nations. I would like to also acknowledge that jazz is a Black-American music.
